Soil pH Testing & Measuring Services in Ware, Hertfordshire
Before we describe our soil pH testing and measuring services, let’s delve into what soil actually is!
The soil underneath your grass is a very complicated medium, supporting thousands of different Flora and Fauna, each carrying out their own little piece of the jigsaw.
Did you know that each grain of soil not only provides an anchor point for plants to root and grow, but also provides just the right amount of moisture and nutrition to help support plant life?
The soil pH is a measure of the acidity or alkaline contained within the soil. Most grasses prefer a pH of 6 to 6.5. If the pH level goes much above or below this, the root system struggles to obtain certain elements that are required for growth and deficiency occurs. See the opposite graph.
Measuring and testing soil pH is carried out if we think there may be a problem. Samples are analysed quickly on site or can be sent away for further investigation for a wider range of nutritional information if required.
Our soil pH testing services are an important element of our client work and can often improve a problem considerably for little outlay, instead of using expensive fertilisers which will not help.

Plant and lawn growth can be hugely affected by soil pH problems. For instance, Rhododendron’s need an acidic soil to thrive of between pH5.0 and 6.0, so if we think there is an issue with soil nutrients or minerals, we can often pin point the problem using local knowledge and by testing Soil pH levels.
